Cleanroom lighting with an antibacterial surface
Cleanroom lighting with an antibacterial surface for healthcare, laboratory and pharmaceutical environments. Luminaires with silver-ion technology to support high hygiene requirements.
Cleanroom lighting with an antibacterial surface
In cleanroom and healthcare environments, lighting systems are expected to deliver not only the right photometric performance but also a high standard of hygiene. For certain specialised applications, lighting solutions with an antibacterial surface are available alongside conventional cleanroom luminaires.
During the manufacture of such luminaires, silver ions are mixed into the material of the diffuser and the housing. Silver-ion technology can help inhibit the proliferation of bacteria and certain micro-organisms on the surface of the luminaire, thereby contributing to a reduction in hygiene risks.
How does silver-ion technology work?
Integrated into the material of the luminaire, the silver ions are continuously present throughout the life of the product. The aim of the technology is to reduce the number of micro-organisms settling on the surface, supporting the maintenance of a cleaner and safer environment.
It is important to stress that silver-ion technology does not replace regular cleaning and disinfection; it provides supplementary protection in areas with high hygiene requirements.
The benefits of antibacterial luminaires
• they can contribute to reducing surface bacteria counts
• they support compliance with high hygiene requirements
• they can provide continuous protection throughout the life of the luminaire
• they are particularly beneficial in healthcare and pharmaceutical environments
• they can help reduce the risk of cross-infection
Typical applications
• hospitals
• patient rooms
• outpatient clinics
• laboratories
• pharmaceutical production rooms
• sterile areas
• healthcare cleanrooms
• research laboratories
Antibacterial lighting and cleanroom requirements
The antibacterial property does not in itself replace cleanroom compliance. The luminaire must still meet the technical and hygiene requirements applying to the given environment, including the provisions of the ISO 14644 cleanroom standard and the necessary IP protection levels.
Why involve a specialist?
When choosing lighting with an antibacterial surface, the cleanroom class, the ceiling system, the photometric parameters and the operational and maintenance considerations all have to be taken into account alongside the hygiene requirements.
Pannon Lighting provides complete support for cleanroom and healthcare lighting projects, from lighting design through to installation.
